Mr Alex Yan, Chairman of the “Hong Kong Pavilion” in the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2017 says at the Launch Cocktail Party that it is the fourth year for a dedicated “Hong Kong Pavilion” to be set up in the BCBF, and with “Colourful Hong Kong” as this year’s theme, the “Hong Kong Pavilion” aims to continue the cultural and creativity exchange between Hong Kong and Italy.

Mr Alex Yan also noted that the “Soaring Creativity” project have received continuous support from Hong Kong publishers and printers, resulting in an increase of the number of exhibitors to 50 and a 15% increase in the number of exhibits for the “Hong Kong Pavilion” in the BCBF 2017, as compared with last year. The exhibitors display over 1, 000 outstanding books, printed materials and electronic publications in the “Hong Kong Pavilion” in BCBF 2017. A dedicated zone will also be set up inside the “Hong Kong Pavilion” to showcase over 60 award winning works by Hong Kong publishers and printers to demonstrate the richness of Hong Kong’s creativity and techniques.

With a view to promoting Hong Kong’s creative industries to the world, and assisting the trade to explore business opportunities, the project has also set up 23 booths at the Corporate Zone in the “Hong Kong Pavilion” for Hong Kong publishers and printers to showcase their nearly 500 exhibits.

Another highlight of this year’s “Hong Kong Pavilion” is the “Creative Corner” which introduces 18 Hong Kong illustrators with their 100% original works. These illustrators are nominated by Hong Kong publishers and printers to showcase Hong Kong’s strength in illustration, with a view to encouraging more collaboration between overseas publishers and Hong Kong illustrators.

Mr K.C. Chiu, Chairman of the “Soaring Creativity” Organising Committee remarked that the “Creative Corner” was first set up at the “Hong Kong Pavilion” in the Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) in October 2016 and then in the Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) in February 2017. Its displays were so popular among the attending publishers and printers from worldwide and readers in Taiwan that the “Creative Corner” successfully helped promote Hong Kong illustrations to the markets abroad.

It demonstrated that the “Soaring Creativity” project has provided an effective cross-sectoral promotional platform for Hong Kong’s publishing and printing industry and other creative sectors, Mr Chiu said. The Organising Committee anticipated more cross-sectoral collaboration with the publishing and printing-related sectors under the “Soaring Creativity” project to foster the further development of Hong Kong’s creative industries, in order to reinforce Hong Kong’s position as Asia’s creative capital.

Ms Fiona Lam, Assistant Head of CreateHK, also expressed her gratitude to the Hong Kong Publishing Federation and the Hong Kong Printers Association for their longstanding support to the HKSAR Government in promoting Hong Kong publishing and printing.

To further assist the publishing and printing sectors in market development, CreateHK has approved funding for the Hong Kong Publishing Federation and the Hong Kong Printers Association to set up the “Hong Kong Pavilion” in the FBF again in this October, she said.

The “Soaring Creativity – Hong Kong Pavilion 2016-17” has set up “Hong Kong Pavilion” in FBF 2016, TIBE 2017 and BCBEF 2017. To sustain the cultural and creativity exchanges between Hong Kong and Italy, the organisers will donate part of the publications exhibited at the “Hong Kong Pavilion” to the University for Foreigners of Siena (Italy) upon the completion of the BCBF 2017. A ceremony was held today during the Launch Cocktail Party to signify the donation with Professor, Anna Di Toro representing the University of Foreigners of Siena to receive the donation. To further promote Hong Kong’s culture, freshly made “Hong Kong-Style Egg Roll in bite-sized” was also served for free at the Launch Cocktail Party.
