Soaring Creativity - Hong Kong Pavilion 2019 at Frankfurt Book Fair World-class event presents Hong Kong's outstanding publications and printed works

[Frankfurt, 16th October 2019], The ‘Soaring Creativity – Hong Kong Pavilion’ project , which is co-organized by Hong Kong Publishing Federation and The Hong Kong Printers Association, and sponsored by Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (‘CreateHK’), sets up the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) for nine consecutive years, with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin as the supporting organization again. 
 
 
‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at FBF 2019
 
A Launch Cocktail Party was held on 16th October 2019 at the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at Hall 4.0, Stand A12 of FBF. The organizers of the ‘Soaring Creativity’ project are honored to have Ms. Duan Yu Ping, Representative of China Delegation, Ms. Jersey Yuen, Assistant Head of Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Ms. Urania Chan, Head of Commercial Relations of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin, Mrs. Kathrin Gruen, Head of PR and Communications of FBF, Mr. Chiu Kwok-chu, Vice-Chairman of ‘Soaring Creativity’ Organizing Committee, Mr. Matthew Yum, Chairman of ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at FBF 2019 and Mr. Alex Yan, Vice-Chairman of ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at FBF 2019 as officiating guests to open the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at the Party.

Participated in FBF for nine consecutive years to promote exchanges between publishing and printing industry in Hong Kong and other regions

The latest edition of the ‘Soaring Creativity’ project sets up the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ in three major international book fairs, namely the ‘South China Book Festival’ and the ‘Beijing International Book Fair’ in August, and FBF in October, in the latter half of 2019. FBF, the world's largest international book fair, is regarded as the most important exhibition in international book trade since its inception in 1949. The ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ presented in this world-class event for nine consecutive years shows the achievements of Hong Kong’s publishing and printing and its unique creativity and innovative technologies to over 7,400 global exhibitors from more than 100 countries and regions with an aim to promote Hong Kong’s publishing and printing industry. 

Themed on ‘Exploring Hong Kong’, the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at this year’s FBF showcases nearly 1,700 excellent Hong Kong books, printings and electronic books from a total of 72 Hong Kong exhibitors including over 1,000 exhibits displayed in the Industrial Zone by 50 publishers, 20 printers and 2 electronic publishers and nearly 700 exhibits displayed in the Enterprise Zone by 28 publishers and 11 printers among the Hong Kong exhibitors, to showcase the creativity of Hong Kong’s publishing and printing industry to buyers around the world. 

A ‘business networking’ program is also held by the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ on 17 October 2019 (2nd day of FBF 2019), for Hong Kong exhibitors to meet with their invited overseas counterparts. It aims to provide a unique trading platform for publishers, printers, booksellers, copyright owners and agents to strengthen contacts and facilitate exchanges between Hong Kong publishers and printers and their overseas clients, with a view to helping them develop new markets.

Speaking at the Launch Cocktail Party, Mr. Matthew Yum, Chairman of the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at FBF 2019, expressed his sincere thanks to Create Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin and personages from the publishing and printing industry for their support for and participation in the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at FBF.

‘Creative Corner’ and Dedicated Section for ‘Award-Winning Works’ in Hong Kong Pavilion

The printing and publishing industry plays an important role in Hong Kong’s social, cultural and economic development. With the advancement of technology, printers and publishers are able to transform different types of works into physical books with their brilliant publishing ideas and state-of-the-art printing techniques and pour their unlimited creativity into these books to attract more readers and promote reading. 

To promote the fun of multimedia reading and showcase the achievements in innovation and technology attained by Hong Kong publishing and printing industry to its counterparts in the world, the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at this year’s FBF sets up the ‘Creative Corner’ under the theme ‘STEM’, after the same one at the ‘South China Book Festival 2019’ in Guangzhou and ‘The 26th Beijing International Book Fair’. It exhibits more than 10 Hong Kong books and printed works that are full of Hong Kong characteristics and focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

In the meantime, the dedicated section for ‘Award-Winning Works’ is set up in the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ again to showcase Hong Kong’s creative achievements in publishing and printing industry by exhibiting a number of outstanding works of Hong Kong publishers and printers that have won local and international awards.  

Extended cultural exchanges started from books to explore Hong Kong from multiple perspectives

The ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ has also been organising cultural exchange activities which are warmly received by visitors from all over the world since such activities were launched. Similar activity – the complimentary tasting of Hong Kong-style ‘Shrimp Egg Noodles with Oyster Sauce’ – will be held in the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ during this year’s FBF from 17th October to 19th October at 3:00p.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily to share Hong Kong cuisine with readers from all over the world.

After the FBF 2019, the ‘Soaring Creativity’ Project will further donate some of the exhibits in the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ to the London Confucius institute, SOAS, University of London to promote the cultural and creative exchanges between Hong Kong and Europe and allow more readers to appreciate Hong Kong’s achievements in publishing and printing. The donation ceremony was held during the Launch Cocktail Party of the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ at FBF 2019, and Dr. Yiling Hou represented the London Confucius Institute, SOAS, University of London to receive the donation in the ceremony. 
 
 
 The organizers of the ‘Hong Kong Pavilion’ will donate some of the exhibits to the London Confucius Institute, SOAS, University of London to continue the cultural and creativity exchanges between Hong Kong and Europe.
